When I decided to become an accountant, I thought I’d love working in a big downtown corner office and dressing up daily. So I got straight to it: I attended U of T (graduating with distinction with an honours Bachelor of Commerce), completed my Uniform Final Examinations, gained the accredited experience and became a Chartered Accountant with the Ontario Institute (ICAO).
I then spent 10 great years with Deloitte– one of the largest professional services organizations in the world offering audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory services. I oversaw several large public and private corporate audits and reviews. This gave me extensive experience in corporate reorganizations, estate planning, voluntary disclosure filings, personal and corporate income tax compliance and planning (including remuneration strategies for owner-managed businesses).
It was 10 years into my big downtown company experience that I realized I actually didn’t love working for a huge firm. What I really loved was working with small business clients. So, I decided to join my father Brant, and never looked back. I thrive on continually trailblazing and staying on top of the newest technology for ways to help us work smarter. And while I still dress up for work, now it’s for a job I love.
In my spare time, I can be found in the stands at my kids’ rep basketball games, working on personal fitness, skiing and vacationing. I’m also a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) and have my QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification.
I am fluent in English, proficient in French and Farsi.
With over 28 years of solid tax and accounting experience serving a large number of small business retail and service clients in Toronto, you could say I know a thing or two about numbers. My extensive practical knowledge of small business accounting and tax issues is a great complement to Mina’s big business background. This ying-yang thing is how R&A clients benefit from the best of both worlds. Not too many other small business accounting firms can claim the same.
People often ask me where my interesting accent is from. I came from Iran, where I received my undergraduate degree in economics before continuing on to the United Kingdom for my Masters in Economics and Finance. I worked on numerous international industrial feasibility studies and investment projects, in the capacity of Senior Project Manager and Division Director, before immigrating to Canada with my young family in 1983. I have taught as part of the Faculty of Commerce at Concordia University. I worked at a consulting engineering firm in Montreal and eventually decided I wanted to do my own thing. I began my own accounting and tax practice in Toronto in 1993, became a member of the Guild of Industrial, Commercial and Institutional Accountants and haven’t looked in the rear-view mirror since.
I am fluent in English and Farsi and have a passion for music. I actually was a pretty good drummer back in the day. I have since moved on to focus on classical and flamenco guitar.
I joined R&A with my Honours in Bachelor of Administration at Wilfrid Laurier (Go, Golden Hawks!) and over 10 years of accounting experience doing audits and SR&ED. Nowadays, I provide a large range of financial services for our small business clients, including notice to readers, HST, payroll, mergers and acquisitions and corporate income tax preparation and planning.
I first came to R&A to work towards a partnership opportunity, however, I quickly found a family. What drives me each and every day is the great feeling I get from achieving desired results for our clients by working together.
In my spare time I can be found reading books on business matters like SEO, Pricing and Marketing, to bring more to my job and R&A clients. I love to travel tropical destinations with my girlfriend, play on my Xbox, go to the gym and experiment in the kitchen.
Work-life balance is a big goal for me. It’s also one of the things that attracted me most to R&A. All of my warm and friendly colleagues and all of the learning opportunities I’ve had along the way are just the icing on the cake.
I’ve been with the company since 2008 and have collected some pretty great memories throughout the years. (Ask me about the time we couldn’t beat the Escape Room clock even with 5+ accountants working together!) I just completed my second bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance with Honours and am well down the path to complete my CPA designation.
Of course, life isn’t just about work. In my downtime, I immerse myself in books, play video games (all Call of Duty challengers, welcome!) and boost my adrenaline with horror movies.
I’m a bit of a technophile. In fact, that may have been what drew me to R&A the most. I love the company’s constant drive to adopt innovative technology to provide forward-looking and proactive services to our clients. This, combined with the client-oriented approach to put ourselves in our customers’ shoes, made R&A the ideal place to work. I also love the collaborative and motivating work culture here. The wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences my colleagues bring to the table is very valuable.
As for what I bring to the table, I have a General/Fundamental Management Accounting certificate from U of T. Never one to sit still for too long, I’m also currently pursuing my CPA designation through Nipissing University, in combination with a BComm specializing in accounting.
In my spare time, I like to experiment with various vegan/ gluten-free recipes, dabble in lino printing, and put my feet up with good books and music.
What drew me to R&A? I loved how organized and efficient the workflow is — it’s like a well-oiled machine! I also knew I’d be working with a great team. The people are warm and friendly and big cheerleaders of learning and growth. I think this is a big reason why the company has so many long-standing clients.
I’ve spent over 9 years working in bookkeeping and accounting, with a special focus on small business accounting and taxes. Call me a numbers nerd, but I love it when the numbers add up and everything balances!
When I’m not working, in the summer you’ll most likely find me outside on a walk or working with our bees. (Yes, I’m a beekeeper who tends 20 hives). Come winter, you’ll most likely find me curled up in front of the fire with a book and a cup of tea.
Hands down, what I enjoy most about working with everyone at R&A is the company culture. Everyone is uber friendly and team orientated. I also love how everyone is on the constant lookout for new and innovative ways of doing business to serve our clients better.
In terms of my backstory, I majored in Accounting and Human Resources and have been working in the payroll and accounting field for 12 years. I guess you could say I love both people and finance.
When I’m not working, I enjoy camping, fishing, gardening and being outdoors at the baseball field with my family. I spend so much time outside because that’s where I am happiest.
Unique Small Business Issues Require Unique Solutions
During the recession in the early 90s, Brant relocated himself and his family from Montreal to Toronto. He knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but he had a passion for accounting and to help small businesses. He started his accounting practice of Padgett Business Services of Toronto.
15 years of hard work and dedication in helping local small businesses allowed Brant’s practice to thrive. It was time to lay the groundwork for the next stage.
The next chapter
After 10 engaging years at Deloitte, Mina decided to partner with her father Brant, sharing her wealth of tax knowledge and experience with their growing small business clients.
Over the last 5 years, Padgett Business Services Toronto was collecting hardware. We were recipients of the “Office of the Year”, “Hall of Fame” and “Leaders Club” awards for multiple years within the Padgett Business Services of Canada group.
Padgett Business Services Toronto was transformed into Reydman & Associates Professional Corporation, marking the start of an exciting new chapter. We began focusing on cloud accounting and incorporating leading technologies to streamline the bookkeeping process.
We marked our 25th year milestone in servicing small businesses and entrepreneurs.
With the onset of the global pandemic, Reydman transitioned overnight to a fully remote workforce. Since we had many of the technologies in place, our clients did not experience any disruption in services.
Since 1993, we’ve grown to 8 full-time employees and still work with many of our original clients. We are embracing a hybrid work model and continuing to expand our niche position in the ecommerce accounting space. We look forward to what the future brings!
